Es un sábado memorable: 18 de Octubre del 2014 en Stony Point, Nueva York, Estados Unidos. Fué la gran celebración de Gala por la Paz. Dos personas fueron galardonadas pero con grandes expresiones de acción de gracias a Dios por sus vidas dedicadas a “sembrar en paz para recoger como fruto la justicia”: Anne Barstow y Tom Driver.
Fue una noche muy especial. Realzamos esta Celebración en favor de la Paz, con personas que se han comprometido en favor de ella. Erámos un grupo de personas que persiste en la esperanza de una vida justa en todo el sentido que esta bella palabra también tiene. Sin justicia no hay paz.
Shannan Vance-Ocampo y Rick Ufford-Chase fueron los maestros de ceremonia para toda la noche. Por la Iglesia Presbiteriana de Colombia y el Programa de Acompañamiento en ese país estuvimos Jasmín Mosquera y Germán Zárate-Durier. Se les entregó a Anne y Tom un recuerdo de reconocimiento y agradecimiento de sus hermanos y hermanas de esa iglesia.
Anne y Tom se siguen distinguiendo por su compromiso con la paz y la justicia. Hay mucho que seguir aprendiendo de ellos. Su ejemplo de vida, que a pesar de estar en edad de retiro, siguieron voluntarimente “sembrando paz para recoger frutos de justicia.”
Ellos son co-fundadores con otras personas del Programa Presbiteriano de Acompañamiento para la Paz entre los hermanos y hermanas de las Iglesias Presbiterianas de Colombia y Los Estados Unidos. Sus mensajes a la audiencia, llenos de sabiduría y de mucho entusiasmo nos volvieron a conquistar para seguir adelante.
Antes, había estado como ponente central el Dr. P.D. Hedges que de manera brillante y profética nos compartió su magistral ponencia sobre el tema: “La Cultura de la Guerra,” como una muestra desde sus experiencias de vida, de lo que Dios puede hacer en nosotros cuando de corazón y con nuestras vidas nos comprometemos con El. Qué Dios nos bendiga y nos ayude a todos los que creemos en la paz y la esperanza.
Let Us Join Together to Celebrate Peace

It was a memorable Saturday: October 18, 2014 in Stony Point, New York. It was the great celebration called the Peace Gala. Two people were honored for their lives dedicated to “sow in peace to collect the fruit of justice”: Anne Barstow and Tom Driver, with great thanksgiving to God.
It was a very special night. Those committed to this Celebration for Peace were a group of people who persist in hope of a righteous life in the correct sense that this beautiful word has. No justice, no peace.
Shannan Vance-Ocampo and Rick Ufford-Chase were the emcees for the night. For the Presbyterian Church of Colombia and the Colombia Accompaniment Program, Jasmine Mosquera and German Zárate-Durier, were in attendance. They gave Anne and Tom recognition and appreciation from their brothers and sisters in the Colombian church, presenting them with a gift from the IPC.
Anne and Tom will continue their commitment to peace and justice. There is plenty to keep learning from them. Their example of life, despite being of retirement age, followed voluntarily “sowing peace to collect the fruits of righteousness.”
They are co-founders with others of the Presbyterian Accompaniment Program for Peace between the brothers and sisters of the Presbyterian Church of Colombia and in the United States. Their messages to the audience, full of wisdom and enthusiasm, call us to keep moving forward.
Earlier in the night we had and special lecture from the Dr. T.E. Chris Hedges. He prophetically shared his conference address on the theme. “Culture of War” as a good example in his life experiences of what God can do through us when our hearts and lives are committed to God. We pray that God bless and help us all who believe in peace and hope.
