Colombia Accompaniment Training

Thursday, February 16, 2017 to Monday, February 20, 2017

Stony Point Center, Stony Point, NY

This event is for those discerning whether to serve as nonviolent accompaniers through the Colombia Accompaniment Program. As a group, living and eating and praying together “on retreat” at the Allison House just off the main Stony Point campus, we carry out an intensive study of human-displacement by violence in Colombia, and of links to US foreign policy. We learn about how the church in Colombia has responded (including its commitment to non-violence), and we consider what it means for us to respond as accompaniers in Colombia and as advocates back in the US. We hear the voices of some of those directly involved in both the problems and the response. There is time set aside for individual discernment of call (or not) to serve as accompaniers.

Each person accepted for training is expected to pay their own travel costs to and from Stony Point, arriving by 5pm on the Thursday, leaving at 1:00pm on Monday. Each person accepted is also expected to commit some time before training to read and consider pre-study materials. PPF provides room and board and the training itself at no charge – although donations to help cover the costs are always welcome.
