Nonviolent Witness Against War

42 peacemakers in nonviolent prayer action in the Hart Building (Senate Offices) in Washington, DC, March 2008.
In 2007, the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship was instrumental in helping to create the coalition called the Christian Peace Witness for Iraq. The goal of the coalition is to create a strong, authentic, unabashedly Christian Witness against the war. In the two events that CPWI has helped to create in Washington DC (March 16, 2007 and March 7, 2008), what has distinguished CPWI’s witness has been our insistence that we must link worship with the act of public, nonviolent action to end the war.
In 2008, PPF leaders again took the lead in developing a strong, interfaith witness called the Olive Branch Interfaith Peace Partnership. Together, Jewish, Muslim, Unitarian, Buddhist, and Christian communities of faith are insisting that we cannot and will not allow our religious traditions to be hijacked by extremists who would warp our beliefs into a reason to act violently.
If you would like to be involved with the Peace Fellowship’s work to stand against war as a part of either CPWI or OBIPP, please contact Rick at ppfwitness@gmail.com.
